NexusIQ SCADA Migration Accelerator

NexusIQ is the platform I lead at LTIMindtree. It turns the slow, error-prone work of migrating legacy CygNet SCADA to open Ignition into a guided, repeatable workflow, with parsing, mapping, validation, and generation built in.

The challenge

Migrating a production SCADA system off a legacy platform is normally a manual, months-long effort. Engineers hand-map thousands of tags, rebuild alarms, and reconstruct screens, and every step is a chance to introduce drift between the old system and the new one.

The goal was to remove that drudgery without removing the engineer's judgment, so a migration becomes fast and repeatable instead of bespoke every time.

The approach

  • Built automated parsers that read existing CygNet point and facility definitions and detect their format without manual configuration.
  • Created a mapping layer that translates legacy tags into a clean, ISA-95-aligned Unified Namespace model.
  • Added validation that catches casing, namespace, and alarm-bucket issues before anything is generated, so problems surface early.
  • Generated Ignition-ready artifacts and Perspective screen templates as the output, leaving the engineer to review rather than rebuild.

The outcome

  • Months of manual point conversion compressed into a guided workflow measured in days.
  • A consistent, standards-aligned namespace produced on every run instead of one-off mappings.
  • A repeatable accelerator that a delivery team can apply across engagements rather than starting from zero each time.
