SCADA Modernization

Midstream Enterprise SCADA Modernization

A midstream operator needed to modernize an aging enterprise SCADA footprint without disrupting production. The work moved control onto an open Ignition and Unified Namespace architecture while keeping the existing system as a trusted data source.

The challenge

The incumbent SCADA platform had become the integration layer for everything, which made every new analytics or reporting request a custom, fragile effort.

Leadership wanted a path to modern platforms and cloud analytics without a risky, all-at-once cutover of the systems running the pipeline.

The approach

  • Stood up a Unified Namespace as the contract between producers and consumers across basins.
  • Kept CygNet in place as a publisher into the namespace rather than ripping it out.
  • Layered Ignition on top for new visualization and control, subscribing to the namespace instead of the legacy platform.
  • Phased the rollout site by site so the safety-critical path was never in question.

The outcome

  • A vendor-neutral architecture that scales as new sites and tools come online.
  • New consumers integrated in a fraction of the previous effort thanks to a single clean data layer.
  • A clear, low-risk runway toward cloud analytics and future platforms.
